We have two dogs. One purchased in a moment of weakness (the empty nest syndrome). The other deserted on our doorstep by our daughter when she realized she couldn’t have it in her apartment at college. Trust me–two dogs (or three) are too too many. It’s definitely a love/hate relationship. Now I can only dream of an empty nest.
Loved the article, Amy. You made me remember with SUCH fondness the decision made 8 years ago to enter horse “ownership” for the first time…with not one, not two, not THREE, but FOUR equines. First time owners were we. One horse for each family member, right? Oh puhleeze! God has been humbling us ever since. You know that bible story about the Israelites wanting meat to eat? They asked for quail and God gave them quail til quail were coming out their noses? (Literally!) We got horses coming out our noses…or at least their waste products! (ew…) Thanks for the smiles today reading your article. I believe God uses our critters to teach us so much about him and about us and about others. Or that is my theory…
Oh-em-gee. You had three babies in 4 years? I’m sorry. I pretty much lost my focus after I read that. I’ll come back later after I digest that. Wow, Amy. You really are a survivor, girl!
I can’t wait to read the next installment. Like you, we have an old dog (14 1/2), and went out to get a puppy this summer and came home with 2 (sisters). My husband said that splitting them up would be like the plot of a bad Disney movie.
I love the idea of having a dog for each boy. I totally understand your decision.
As for practicality, living with them all, I can only guess where part 2 will be going! At least look at it this way… it’s making good writing material.
